The fact that Bishop Cotton Boys' School has been acknowledged as the No. 1 school among all metro schools in India, the best school in Bangalore and one of the three best schools in India, has come about through design, not by happy accident. It takes vision, hard work, consolidation and the ability to inspire those who teach within these walls and those that come to learn from them. I see the school not so much as a place where a child arrives, struggles through and then leaves happily for home, but a place the child would call another home. Learning here is not a question of textbooks alone. But when it comes to textbooks, we try to inculcate understanding first, and a love for the subjects under study. Of what worth is science without the understanding of what moves the cosmos?
Extracurricular activities? We prefer to call these further skeins of Cottons. Any visitor to the campus can get a feel of why Cottons is unusual, with its well-equipped science and computer labs, state-of-the-art auditorium, three playgrounds, swimming pool, canteen, boarding and transport facilities. Indeed, our students, all 5,000 of them (drawn from different backgrounds that represent India's diverse and rich culture), are proud flag-bearers of what Cottons represents.
Mission Statement :
- To impart knowledge that encompasses the prescribed syllabi of the institution as well as that of the world beyond the classroom.
- To build and strengthen character that will not crumble when tested in the crucible of adulthood.
- To provide opportunities for the development of leadership qualities that can be utilised in the future for the creation of a better India, one that can hold its head high in the community of nations.
- And, most importantly, to give all glory for every breathing moment, to God, The Most High.
Laboratories :
The Elphick Research Centre is spread over four floors measuring 10, 647 sq.ft. Built at a cost of Rs. 2 crore, this impressive building houses the physics, chemistry, biology and computer science laboratories.
Auditorium :
All kinds of possibilities for creative learning open up when you take a look at this spectacular, futuristic auditorium, which was inaugurated on the 9th January 2004 by Dr. G. Parameshwar, Hon'ble Minister for Higher Education and Information, and dedicated by the Rt. Rev. Vasanthakumar, Chairman, Board of Directors, Bishop Cotton Boys' School and Bishop, Karnataka Central Diocese. Not a single pillar obstructs the panoramic view of the sweeping, curved 1200 sq. ft. stage with a height of 33 ft. The V-shaped, fully air-conditioned is tiered with row upon row of seats for 1,400 people. It has state-of-the-art infrastructure, back-up power, superior acoustics and the latest technology for sound and light effects, required to conduct any kind of performance - dance, music or theatre.
Libraries :
Yet another landmark in the history of Cottons was the construction of an impressive building, the Pettigrew Resource Centre, for which the foundation stone was laid by the former President of India, His Excellency Shri Shankar Dayal Sharma. Named after the Founder of Bishop Cotton Boys' School, this Centre houses a Library, a Study Hall and a Dormitory. A marble bust of Rev. S. T. Pettigrew adorns the Library, covering an area of 7974 sq. ft. in the basement and ground floor.Above the Library, is a Multi-purpose Hall covering an area of 3904 sq.ft, which is well-furnished with the latest amenities
Boarding :
With a multicultural cosmopolitan crowd of 200 boys, time seems to run away from us. The 20 member resident staff of experienced teachers and counselors are bent on seeing to it that there is no discomfort or frustration in the minds of anyone, especially the little ones in 3rd and 4th standards. The roles and routine of the boarding home at cottons are established so as to suit the needs of the average student who seeks and all-round development of personality.
