The school is a co-educational day and boarding school with 9,500 students. Accommodation is provided to more than 400 boarding students within the on-site girls' hostel and the boys' millennium hostel, located across the road on the school's sports campus. The millennium hostel is headed by Dr. Daulat Ram Saini, who is currently the Principal. The school's facilities include two libraries that house 50,000 books in the senior library and 10,000 books in the junior library; a reading room; a video library; school counseling centres; an audio-visual hall; an air-conditioned Seminar Hall, and a bookshop. The school has laboratories for computing, Shogun, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, language, robotics, and mathematics. The Sports Complex has facilities for volleyball, cricket, football, golf, basketball, lawn tennis, lawn ball, table tennis, and badminton. It also comprises three swimming p
ools, and two gymnasiums.
"On 29 August 2002 during the ""1st Computer Literacy Excellence Awards for Schools"", then President of India A. P. J. Abdul Kalam presented an award to Dr. (Mrs.) Shayama Chona, the former Principal of DPS R K Puram. The award was for the Best School at the State (Delhi) Level and the second runner-up for the entire country. In 2008, Dr. Chona received the Padma Bhushan award. Dr. Chona was the founder of Tamana Special School, a school for the education of physically and mentally handicapped children. In 2003 DPS R K Puram were the recipients of the United Nations Global Leadership Opportunity and as a result was invited to host the 2007 Global Classrooms international programme.

Student Pilot – Gurmehar Singh Gurmehar Singh Makker, class-12-M, has successfully completed his pilot training at YTZ international airport, Toronto, Canada. (9th busiest airport of Canada & the 3rd busiest of Ontario).
Gurmehar did his first solo flight just after 17 hours of dual flight (with instructor), excellent by their standards. He was also their youngest student (age- 16 years). He cleared the licensing exam with 100% score & now holds the Student Pilot License to fly Cessna 172 aircrafts. Gurmehar also took a cross country flight from Billy Bishop international airport to Missisaka, totaling for 2.2 hours. His flying skills have earned him a certificate of appreciation from his instructors!

Anvay Tewari, a student of Class 12 O was invited to be the Vice Chair of the Arab League, a 24-delegate committee whose aim was to address the conflicts of the Middle East. To be accorded the status of Vice Chair is a rare privilege. During the inaugural Model UN conference conducted by Georgetown University in 2013, Anvay Tewari was awarded the Best Delegate of the Human Rights Council and the invitation to be Vice Chair this year was an outcome of last year’s interaction.
Aayan Kumar, a student of class XII of Delhi Public School, R.K.Puram has secured International Rank One in the 16th National Science Olympiad in the academic year 2013-14. He wins Rs 50,000 along with a Gold Medal, a Merit Certificate and Gifts worth Rs 1000. This year students from over 27000 schools across 1350 cities in 16 countries enrolled for the Olympiad and more than a million students participated in it.
