The Bishop's School, Pune, is an all-boys school affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi. The school was established by Lt. Col Sydney T. Stock in 1864 to cater to the sons of warrant officers and non-commissioned officers of the British Indian Army. The school has since functioned as a Christian, Anglo-Indian minority institution. It admits both boarders and day scholars. Girls are admitted in classes XI and XII.
The Bishop's campus, one of the oldest school campuses in India, is a landmark in Pune. Adjacent to the campus is St. Mars Church, built by the British in the 19th century.
The school buildings consist of 75 well-ventilated classrooms, three science laboratories, a computer lab with 60 computers, two assembly halls, two libraries with a reading room and a dining room with seating for 250 children. The school also a cyber cafe with fixed timings, where monitored and filtered content is available for browsing. A minimal fee for the cyber cafe is charged and billed to a chils account.
The school has a 24-hour power backup from a 75 KVA generator capable of supplying the whole campus with electric power. The school also has bore wells to ensure that there is no water shortage. The campus is fumigated regularly by pest control professionals.
Facilities for the following sports and games are offered: badminton, football, cricket, boxing, basketball, table tennis, hockey, volleyball and tennis.
The Bishos School campus has a 20-bed infirmary manned by an experienced nurse and has two pediatricians on call. The infirmary is for both boarders and day scholars. The school has regular inoculation programs conducted by doctors.
The Bishop's School campus is one of the oldest school campuses in India and an important landmark in Pune.
For entry into LKG, the child should be aged between 4 years to 4 years 11 months as on June 1 of the academic year in which admission is being sought.Students are admitted to other classes but not in class VIII and above unless they come from a CISCE affiliated school and have a good academic record; this is again subject to availability of seats.
Admission forms are usually available online in mid-January. Processing fees are to be paid, and documents submitted within a week of issuance of forms.
The school prepares its students for examinations conducted by the CISCE, New Delhi. The syllabus of the junior school and middle school is based on the recommendation of the Inter State Board for Anglo-Indian Education and CISCE.
The course of studies includes moral instruction, reading, writing, mathematics (Integrated), physics, chemistry, biology, general science, history, geography, crafts, Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit, English language and literature, physical training, commerce and SUPW. Computers are introduced from kindergarten to class X. The school also lays importance on co-curricular activities and character building.
Extracurricular activities
Various clubs and activities like the Drama Club, Taekwondo, Debating Club, Cooking, Scouts and Billiards are scheduled throughout the week. Sports activities include badminton, football, cricket, basketball, table tennis, hockey, volleyball and tennis. Other sports at the school are boxing (it is one of only two schools in Maharashtra to offer it as a part of its regular activities) and athletics.
Coaching in keyboard, drums, violin and guitar is provided.
